I went to see ParaNorman last night and happened to sit by this rad little boy in a hooded jacket. He enjoyed the movie thoroughly and cheered when the credits came on. Kids! ParaNorman was the best and you should all see it, way to go team Laika!

Oh my gosh. It is the craziest and hottest day. But these two? They were so cute. Dad’s got it under control, got her hat, got her drink, she doesn’t even know it’s hot out. Later I saw them do that thing where the parent lifts the kid who is in full-on mid-run off the ground and just plunks them in a stroller. Anyway, kids are the best, and parents are the cutest.

Happy Mother’s Day!
I often portray my mom as a timid lady, because she is so loving and sweet. But she’s tough too, she tried very hard to give us every opportunity in a small place, without much. My mother is the one who has believed in my abilities the longest, and the fiercest, and for that I owe her everything.
In this particular exchange, she also showed me that people’s talent may not always be what it appears to be to others, and that we all may have a greatness in us that not everyone can see.
Remember to call your mother today. She loves you.

Last night we were at the Children’s Book Choice Awards! It was so great! We learned from a special guest that football players are huge and amazing in person.

Last year I read this article in the New York Times and it never left me, but it’s only one of many. Every time I come home there are new mansions. We will all feel differently about them. Themes of Cape Breton, home, culture and rural decline will happen in my comics again and again, that much we do know.
